6 Days Skardu Private Tour by Air

Welcome to the most complete Skardu tour available from Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. This Skardu 6 day package by air covers everything Shangrila Lake, Deosai National Park, Shigar Fort, Khaplu Valley, and Basho Valley. As a result, you experience a full picture of Gilgit-Baltistan rather than just a few highlights.

Furthermore, travelling by air makes a huge difference. Instead of an exhausting 15-hour road journey, you arrive in Skardu in under 90 minutes. The flight itself is spectacular. you will see K2, Nanga Parbat, and Broad Peak from the window as you approach one of the world’s most dramatic airports.

What Makes This Tour Different

Most Skardu packages cover only three or four destinations. This itinerary, however, goes much further. In addition to Shangrila Lake and Deosai, you also visit Khaplu Palace and the forests of Basho Valley. These two additions make the experience significantly richer and more varied.

Moreover, every day is completely private. You travel in your own 4×4 vehicle and set your own pace. There are no shared buses and no group schedules. Above all, a professional English-speaking guide accompanies you for all six days.

Your Day-by-Day Highlights

On Day 1, you arrive in Skardu and visit Shangrila Resort beside the crystal-clear Lower Kachura Lake. You also walk through pine trees to the hidden Upper Kachura Lake. Both lakes are among the most photographed places in Pakistan. Therefore, bring your camera charged and ready.

Day 2 is dedicated to Deosai National Park — the second-highest plateau on Earth at 4,114 metres. Here, you may spot Himalayan Brown Bears, golden eagles, and Himalayan Marmots. Additionally, you visit Sheosar Lake, where the sky and peaks reflect in the water with perfect symmetry.

History and Heritage – Days 3 and 4

On Day 3, you explore the ancient Shigar Valley and visit Shigar Fort — a 400-year-old royal palace restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. In the evening, you climb Kharpocho Fort for a panoramic sunset view over the Skardu valley and the Indus River below.

Day 4 takes you east to Khaplu Valley along the Shyok River. This ancient mountain kingdom has 700-year-old apricot orchards and a stunning backdrop of 6,000-metre peaks. Furthermore, a guided tour of Khaplu Palace reveals the remarkable history of the Balti royal family. Very few tourists reach Khaplu, so the experience feels genuinely authentic.

Basho Valley and Manthokha Waterfall – Day 5

Day 5 is dedicated to Basho Valley — one of the very few forested valleys in Gilgit-Baltistan. In contrast to the rocky desert around Skardu city, Basho is lush and green. Silver birch trees, mountain streams, and wildflower meadows create an atmosphere of extraordinary peace.

Additionally, you visit Manthokha Waterfall — a dramatic 40-metre cascade surrounded by weeping willows. A short walk from the road leads to the base of the falls. In the afternoon, therefore, you return to Skardu Bazaar for a final browse of Balti handicrafts, gemstones, and dried apricots.

Final Day and Departure

Day 6 is relaxed and unhurried. After breakfast, you enjoy a final walk or revisit your favourite spot. Then you transfer to Skardu Airport for your return flight. As the plane climbs above the mountains, you get one last breathtaking view of K2 and the Baltoro Glacier.

Best Time to Visit Skardu

Skardu is a year-round destination. However, each season offers a very different experience. Therefore, the right time to visit depends on what you are looking for.

Spring – April and May

In spring, the valleys bloom with pink and white apricot blossoms. Temperatures are mild — between 10°C and 22°C. However, Deosai and Khaplu may still have snow in early April. For the full 6-day itinerary, late May is therefore the better choice.

Summer – June to August

Summer is the most popular season. As a result, hotels fill quickly and advance booking is essential. On the positive side, all destinations are fully open. Deosai is covered in wildflowers, and temperatures reach a comfortable 15°C to 28°C. Consequently, this is the easiest and most rewarding time for first-time visitors.

Autumn – September and October

Many experienced travellers consider autumn the finest season. The reason is simple: golden poplar trees create spectacular colour, skies are a deep clear blue, and crowds are noticeably smaller. Furthermore, temperatures remain pleasant — between 10°C and 22°C. For photographers and couples, in particular, autumn in Skardu is unforgettable.

Winter – November to March

In winter, snow transforms Skardu into a peaceful white retreat. Deosai and Khaplu become inaccessible by road. Nevertheless, Skardu city remains reachable by air all year. Consequently, a modified winter itinerary is possible, focusing on Shigar Valley and Satpara Lake — both strikingly beautiful under fresh snow.
